Greenwood Cemetery is an historic African-American cemetery in North St. Louis. It was established in 1874 and was the first commercial burial ground for African-Americans in the region.
Notable burials include Harriett Scott, the wife of Dred Scott and plaintiff in the infamous 1857 Supreme Court decision. Over the years maintenance of the cemetery ceased and the cemetery became overgrown with vegetation, with headstones disappearing from view.
We will be supporting the restoration efforts by clearing vegetation and overgrowth. The time will be from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Transportation will be provided.
