The Reverend Cara Rockhill has been appointed director for the Office of Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life (ORSEL) within the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI). She succeeds The Rev. Callista Isabelle, who previously served in the role.
Rockhill brings deep experience in chaplaincy, pastoral leadership, and interfaith engagement to her position at WashU. Prior to joining the university, she served as the Episcopal Chaplain at Georgetown University, where she supported students in exploring spiritual meaning, ethical inquiry, and community-building across faith traditions. She has also served in Episcopal parishes across Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Virginia.

“Rev. Rockhill’s commitment to supporting students of all religious, spiritual, and ethical identities makes her an exceptional fit for this role,” said Jacob Chacko, director for the CDI. “Her chaplaincy work and her dedication to community align deeply with the mission of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.”
Rockhill holds a wide-ranging academic background reflecting both theological and interdisciplinary expertise. She earned her J.D. from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School; her Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary; an MSCM from Kennesaw State University; a Certificate of Anglican Studies from Virginia Theological Seminary; and a dual B.A. from Towson University. She is an ordained Episcopal priest.
In her new role, Rockhill will lead ORSEL’s efforts to support students’ religious, spiritual, and ethical development; foster interfaith dialogue; and cultivate a welcoming environment for students from all backgrounds.
“WashU has a long tradition of encouraging students to explore the questions that shape who they are and how they want to contribute to the world,” Rockhill said. “I’m honored to join a community that values such exploration and to help support students on those journeys.”
